RE: sales tax and other taxes

Florida tax structure is state(sales tax), county(up to .03 added to sales tax), town(up to 1 1/2 cents sales tax). Then each county and town can have a tourist or Chamber of Commerce tax, then each county and town can have a bed tax, and on and on. Remember, Florida has no income tax, so the tourist is making up the burden of the tax base.
The electric is a pass through from the park. Most take the going kwh rate and add a service fee to that by increasing the kwh rate correspondingly. Yes it is perfectly legal, as they are not a utility under the control of any regulatory board.
Florida loves the tourist, keep coming back.

RE: Disappointed in local dealer

The salesperson who told you about the greater fuel economy of the DP vs. gas was way off base. The DP's are heavier and have larger diesel engines than the diesel engines in pick up trucks. Keep shopping! The best I ever got with my 32' gas was 7.3 mpg and the norm for my 40' DP is 8.9 mpg. Who was way off base????

RE: How many have had flats due to valve extenders?

Been using braided valve extenders since 2000 and never had a problem due to the extenders. Buy the good ones and make sure they are seated correctly and you will never have a problem.

RE: Getting an FMT in advance?

Like I said, this past winter, they stamped our US passports with a visa/FMT stamp at Reyenosa on entry and then stamped them with an exit stamp at Sonoyta when we left. The 1st stamp says, TAMAULIPAS, INM, 29 NOV 07, E, pix of a car, Mexican seal, TRE006 AND HAND WRITTEN UNDER STAMP IS, FMT X 180 dias. The 2nd stamp says, SONORA, INM, 14 MAR 08, S, pix of a car, Mexican seal, TSO002.
The E is for Entrada and the S is for Salida. I am assuming they had the new regs in place then or may have just been in the trail stages at those two ports. I would do a little more inquiring before I paid for an FMT if you may not need one.

horizon451, is Findlays still open? They announced awhile back that they were going out of business, or did the silent partner, Michael Hohl of Carson City keep it open?

RE: Buying real estate at Auction? Good thing or bad?

Properties at auction are flawed in some way. It could be a number of reasons why. Find out why it's at auction versus for sale?LOL, down here it is not that the properties are flawed, it's that the banks were flawed and they have no way of unloading them(10s of thousands), especially after the lawyers got into the foreclosure action. The one piece we bought from the bank directly, had a foreclosure legal fee almost equal to the selling price. Figure that one out. By selling at auction, the legal fee disappears and becomes the banks headache, which they seem to have a way of dealing with.

RE: Buying real estate at Auction? Good thing or bad?

Rock, I think you're talking about the auction that is next week, right? If so, that $5000 is not to bid, but is the minimum requirement needed if your bid is accepted at that time and is considered as part of the buyers premium. This company is legit and the properties being sold will have a quit claim deed from the lending institution. It is your responsibility to determine if there are any liens on the property and they do convey with the property. Most of the taxes will be up to date, however HOA dues will not and any mechanics lien will not, so go in with the knowledge of what can happen. One of my DDs is planning on bidding on multiple condo units from Port Charlotte to Naples and one in Key West, to use as rentals. The ones she has now, that she bought from the individual just before foreclosure or from the banks direct, are all rented for the season and her annual cost are already paid. It can be a good investment, if you know what you're doing, but it can bite very hard if you don't.

Lon, you are going with the right attitude and to one our favorite ares in all the US. We may just get by and see you, as we try to get to BB NP at least every 12-18 months and also go to Lajitas just for the fun of it. You have a great adventure and enjoy the wild wild west at its finest.

RE: jeep wrangler 4 dr????

We have rented and driven both on the trails around Moab, UT and I'll make this observation. For off roading on med and hard trails, the std Jeep Wrangler runs circles around the 4dr extended wheel base. what comes into play is the length of the wheelbase, which profoundly effects the ability to climb and break over any obstacle. For riding down the highway to get to the trails, the Wrangler 4dr is much nicer than the std Wrangler, but after the 1st hard trail, we took the 4dr back and asked for a std Jeep Wrangler.

RE: New GMC 2005, never titeled. Is that a problem??

If the mfg's go belly up, then the warranty would be worthless???? Yes?
If you want this one, I would really low ball it. Even lower than low ball......
Find a newer one at another dealer and play them against one another, you know the game. Nothing is moving as we all know.
A good friend has a nephew who sells Chrysler products. Has been salesman of the year for several years running. He called his uncle the other day begging him to come purchase a car. Said that they had not sold one in over three weeks.
Our so called leaders(corporate and political) really let this get out of hand now didn't they? The top Buick dealer in the southeast US sold 19 cars in a month, total new sales 19 units. This same stealership used to sell that many or more every day. that is why I said loan value on a 2005 used truck as the price.

RE: New GMC 2005, never titeled. Is that a problem??

What a find, in my eyes. That is a good engine and the best transmission out there and IMHO setting for 3 years did not hurt it enough to worry about, with the factory 3 year warranty in effect. I would go to your bank and ask them to give you the figure they have for lending on a used 05 C4500 and that is where I would start with the dealer. That figure will be approx 10% to 20% UNDER wholesale and even though it is new, it is still 3 model years old and needs to reflect that in the price. The minute you sign the buyers order, it becomes just that, a used 3 year old vehicle. Dam, why can't I find one like that when I'm in the market. :B :h

RE: Disappointed in local dealer

There is one dealer on the west Coast that I find very honest and above board. He deals in both the Monarch and the Admiral, which are the same coach. He is DeMartini RV in Grass Valley, CA. He has several on his website and it gives you an indication of his pricing.

RE: DisneyWorld to The Keys

In a few days we're heading to DisneyWorld for a little R&R. From there it's on to Key West. To those of you who drive this frequently which route do you recommend?
Should we take highway 27 through the center of the state, or I-95 along the coast?Unless you like horrendous traffic from Orlando to the end, stay off I-95 period. I would take 27 with the knowledge it can be busy in some areas, but very open and fast in others, plus it is a nice scenic drive all the way to 41 the Tamiami Trail then east to 997 and south to US-1.
The other option is the Florida Turnpike from Orlando to Homestead, but I prefer US-27, it's much cheaper and more scenic.
